This past weekend, we hosted yet another wonderfully successful Football Frenxi! The annual flag football tournament, which benefits Autism Speaks, saw 43 teams of men, women, Greeks, and non-Greeks converge at Fred Beekman Park. From the onset of the tournament, each team displayed a thirst for victory so intense you would expect to only find it rivaled in the Hunger Games. As our sisters cheered and coached from the sidelines, the teams fought to secure a spot in the next round. Thankfully, the stakes were not the same caliber as the Hunger Games. All players and coaches left unharmed (for the most part).
The final championship games saw Kappa Alpha Theta and Alpha Gamma Delta compete in the women’s bracket while “Show Me Your TD’s” and “Evan’s All Stars” appeared in the men’s. In the end, Alpha Gamma Delta and "Evan’s All Stars" were named this year’s Frenxi Champions. But the real excitement came when all playing had commenced and the final fundraising total was announced. After months of organizing chapter walks, booking fields, and leading their sisters in advertising the event, our philanthropy chairs, Keri Ruzicka and Meredith Lynch, saw their hard work pay off in record-breaking fashion.
This year’s Frenxi successfully raised an astounding $2,900 for Autism Speaks! The entire chapter was incredibly proud to be able to donate this impressive sum to such a worthy cause. However, our work with Autism Speaks does not end with Frenxi. All of our sisters are now fundraising to participate in the Columbus Walk Now for Autism Speaks on October 13th! You’ll be sure to see our sisters repping the double blue and gold around downtown Columbus. After all, Autism Speaks and Alpha Xi Delta listens.
