Can you spot the Xi?

Wednesday, September 4, 2013

Welcome back! Whether you’re a veteran student or a first year rookie, we hope you share our excitement for the start of a new school year! With summer bucket lists completed, books bought, and awkward tan lines (un)successfully hidden, the ladies of Alpha Xi Delta are ready to begin their fall semester.

Though the return of classes, exams, and that dreaded alarm clock might not seem like your idea of fun, it signals the return of our lovely sisters! After a summer apart, bigs, littles, twins, pledge classes and roommates will all be reunited. And just like that, a rainbow of “ΑΞΔ” lettered clothing will spread across campus.  However, despite how proud each Alpha Xi is to display her letters on campus, our vast supply of tees, sweatshirts, hats, and bags is not endless (as hard as that is to believe). When laundry day does roll around, our sisters are a little more difficult to spot. But have no fear— the women of Alpha Xi Delta are most likely to be found at any of the places mentioned below:

Thompson Library:
Day or night you’re likely to find an Alpha Xi on any of the Thompson’s floors.  Some of our favorite spots include the Grand and Buckeye Reading Rooms (for those who need large, open spaces to study), the Berry Café (snack breaks are essential during a cram sesh), and the 11th floor (you can’t beat that view!).

Resource Room
Tucked into a corner of the Union’s second floor, this room is one of the most indispensible resources available to all OSU students. The ladies of ΑΞΔ are not strangers to the Resource Room’s useful services, which includes low cost access to printing, enlargements, lamination, poster supplies, games, sports equipment, and various books and tip sheets.

18th Ave Library
Another favorite study spot amongst our sisters. Though considerably smaller than the Thompson, this library’s size can actually prove beneficial for those who are looking to avoid the crowds and noise which occasionally plague the Thompson.  Be on the lookout for those Alpha Xi’s who choose to tackle their heavy homework loads here.

Oxley’s
ΑΞΔ is represented on either side of the counter at this café. Not only do our sisters enjoy stopping by for a tasty snack, but a few are even employees! Next time you’re stomach starts rumbling, follow the numbers and you’ll be sure to find a delicious meal and our lovely ladies.

Oval Beach
Perfect weather for a beach day? Columbus might not have any sunny shores nearby, but Oval “Beach” is the next best thing.  Whether to read a book in the sun or play Frisbee with friends, our busy Xi’s love to hit the Oval for a welcome study break, so grab a towel and join us!

RPAC
One of OSU’s crowning jewels, the RPAC is known to make even the biggest couch potato feel the urge to get their sweat on.  An Alpha Xi can almost always be found somewhere amongst the ellipticals and treadmills, participating in one of the facilities free group fitness classes, or grabbing a delicious smoothie post- workout. One of our sisters picture right is part of inCHAARG!

Express-OH
Yeah diamonds are nice, but on this college campus, coffee is truly a girl’s best friend.  Starbucks still holds a special place in our Alpha Xi hearts, but when looking for a quick caffeine pick me up on campus, Express-OH is the place to go. Not only can you grab a coffee and bagel when in a rush to your dreadful 8 am but you can satisfy your taste buds with a scoop of gelato when you’re sweet tooth is aching. Next time you order your vanilla latte, remember, one of our sisters might be in line too!

The Big Yellow House
If you can’t seem to spot our Alpha Xi’s at any of the campus spots mentioned above, you’re sure to find us at our chapter’s house! Take a short walk down East 15th Avenue and there’s no way you’ll miss the big yellow house that acts as our home away from home. There is rarely a time during the day when girls aren’t rushing out of the house on their way to class, stopping in to hang out with their sisters, or sun-bathing on our beautiful patio. Much like our girls, the Alpha Xi house is bright, welcoming, and unique, and we can’t help but smile each time we see its sunny exterior shining down 15th.

Where can we see you on campus?
