Alpha Xi's Weekend Update

Tuesday, October 8, 2013

Our sisters don't slow down much, if at all. However, we make time for those we care most about.

On Saturday, we were lucky enough to be joined by our fathers for our annual Dad’s Weekend festivities. This year’s event was held at Gooeyz, which proved a great venue for enjoying delicious food while cheering on our Buckeyes! Of course, we love spending time with our sisters. Sharing this experience with our dads made the night even better.

Our chapter functions just like a family, but nothing beats spending time with our favorite fellas.  Not only did they make the trip to Columbus to watch a sporting event with 50+ sorority girls, but they held back the eye rolls when those of us who are aren't exactly football savvy pretended to know whose jersey they were wearing, and even allowed themselves to be photographed in the notorious “sorority squat”.  As goofy and socially awkward as they may sometimes be, our fathers are the reason our chapter is full of amazingly talented, intelligent, and hard-working women.  After all, it takes the best to make XI best!

The weekend’s fun continued on Sunday with our Fall Retreat. Despite less than perfect weather, the sisters of Alpha Xi descended upon Camp Lazarus in Delaware, Ohio for a day of chapter bonding.  What better way to bond as a chapter then over a lunch of “Uncrustables” and animal crackers? The real fun came with the start of the day’s activities.

After being split into teams, our ladies competed in a series of competitive, but extremely fun, “Survivor” challenges. Through the rain, mud and bugs, our Alpha Xi’s faced tests of memory, strategy, and teamwork, and in the end, the “Wild Wild West” team was announced the winners.  While only one team could be crowned retreat champions, the challenges ultimately enabled us all to walk away having learned something new about our sisters and that no matter the challenge, we all have talents and skills to be winners in the end.
